I Missed 3 Critical Steps on My Last Launch. Here's the 150-Point Fix.
My last launch had three critical failures that I noticed within 48 hours. First, the Stripe payment link wasn't connected to my thank-you page — customers were paying and landing on a 404. Second, I hadn't set up the email automation, so no one received access instructions. Third, I forgot to submit to Product Hunt until the afternoon, missing the morning window when traffic peaks.
Each one of these cost real money and real reputation. And each one was completely preventable with a proper checklist.
Why Launches Fail (Operationally)
Launches don't usually fail because the product is bad. They fail because the launch itself is a complicated orchestration of 50+ moving parts happening simultaneously, and most founders are running the entire thing from inside their own head. When you're writing the launch tweet at the same time you're fixing a CSS bug and answering DMs, something important gets forgotten.
The solution is simple in principle and harder in practice: write everything down before you need to do it, and execute from a checklist, not from memory.
The Four Phases of a Launch
Phase 1 — Four Weeks Before: This is when you do the unsexy infrastructure work. Build your waiting list, set up your analytics (before you have data, not after), write the launch content in draft form, and identify 10 people who will share on launch day.
Phase 2 — Two Weeks Before: Beta testing, gathering testimonials, building social proof. A launch without social proof in 2026 is a launch that converts at a fraction of its potential. Even three genuine testimonials change the psychology of the page.

The 150-Point Product Launch Checklist
Four-phase checklist covering 4 weeks before, 1 week before, launch day, and post-launch follow-up. Checkbox format, organized by category.

The checklist includes the exact order of operations for launch day — what to do first, second, and third.
Phase 4 — Post-Launch (First 48 Hours): The launch doesn't end when the tweet goes out. Reply to every comment. Send a follow-up email to people who clicked but didn't buy. Reach out personally to people who mentioned the product. The first 48 hours of follow-up often generate as much revenue as the launch itself.
The Three Steps I Missed
Going back to my three failures: the Stripe connection would've been caught in a pre-launch payment flow test (it's on the checklist). The email automation is a whole category. And Product Hunt submission time is specifically called out in the launch day phase. Three items, all on a list I didn't have. One checklist, no repeats.
